Independence,.What it means to Be Free. Dependence. What it means to be a slave.

I originally wrote this on our website for Independence day but as you will see in reading independence is something we should practice everyday in our lives not just one day a year.

In the US we celebrate our signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th. It is an all important document and the basis for freedom of all men. It is not a document I take lightly. It is amazing in its scope and content to declare that we will not be ruled by the British Crown nor anybody for that matter.

To fully appreciate the entirety of this document and the intent of it is to define Independence itself.

According to the Webster Dictionary Independence is defined as:
1: the quality or state of being independent

Independent is defined as:
: not dependent: as a
(1) : not subject to control by others : self-governing (2) : not affiliated with a larger controlling unit <an independent bookstore> b (1) : not requiring or relying on something else : not contingent <an independent conclusion> (2) : not looking to others for one's opinions or for guidance in conduct (3) : not bound by or committed to a political party c (1) : not requiring or relying on others (as for care or livelihood) <independent of her parents> (2) : being enough to free one from the necessity of working for a living <a person of independent means> d : showing a desire for freedom <an independent manner>

Being independent is not just a holiday; Independence means you EARN your freedom. Freedom (God Given Rights) and Independence are two different things. You earn freedom thorough personal Independence. It is a frame of mind. I truly do not think a lot of people understand what it is to be truly independent and what it is to be Free, but I think a lot more understand what it means to be the antithesis of independent, which is to be “Dependant”.

Webster defines Dependent as:

1: the quality or state of being dependent; especially : the quality or state of being influenced or determined by or subject to another
2: reliance, trust
3: one that is relied on
4a : drug addiction <developed a dependence on painkillers>

If you literally take the definition of being independent as a frame of mind and a lifestyle then you must also realize the opposite of which is dependency. We have, in this country become too dependent on our own government, financial institutions, retail stores, politicians and a ever growing bureaucracy that is all consuming and all taking.

So how would our world be if we were truly independent?

The size of the government would be much smaller than it is now because people would not be so reliant on it for their existence.. The true independents would see government as a threat not a livelihood. They would know that by understanding how we govern ourselves is part and parcel of the process of being free would mean that there would be less intrusion into our lives and less regulations by a monolithic authority. This in itself would create an atmosphere of independent thought and independent inspiration and creativity. When you have career politicians that are actually in their own way reliant on others for votes or power or money then you get a dependent politician. And I would go out on a limb here to say that ALL of them are dependent thinkers in DC. Each and every one of them is so dependent on your vote or your money that they will do anything to keep the power trust that they worked so hard for off the sweat of others for years. If people were more independent in their own lives and in dealing with Washington then we would not have a government so large and so intrusive as we would control it and not the other way around.

Business and the Economy

We don’t have a revenue problem we have a spending problem. We, in this country trade dollars. Dollars are representative of how we used to do business with trading chickens for hogs. A dollar bill has no real value of its own unless it is backed up by good faith and some kind of standard. When we trade our dollars what we are really trading is our productivity because you must do something in order to make that dollar. When you are dependent on the government and you tax business then you are receiving those dollars in exchange for just being alive. When there is nothing that you produce, so you are indeed, dependent not independent.

When you declare business at fault for the world’s problems and regulate them to death you are creating a situation in which the economy cannot thrive or become strong. Business stagnates until it either becomes dependant on the government for bailouts or it fails to exist or it moves to a better location. The notion of a business too big to fail is nonsense to an Independent thinker. Failure is part of business and a part of life. It is meant that way for a reason. If we had no failure we would not be able to recognize success. But we continue to prop up failure as some sort of good thing that we as a country and collective must come to save the day much like a superhero cartoon. In my many years of life many banks and auto companies went out of business. It is truly the American way of Independence. Failure of a business is natures way of cleaning house.

Think of the possibilities as a country unfettered with legal restrictions and idiotic regulations! We would be drilling for oil on our OWN soil and not be dependent on another country for our fuel needs. When will economists, environmentalists and politicians realize that they are destroying the very thing that they wish to save? Oh, they speak a good game. A game of rhetoric and talk about how they/we need to create jobs and increase production but they do not understand (perhaps they do) that the government is not in the business to create jobs. The best they can do is to foster an atmosphere for job creation and increases in productivity but that will NOT happen unless they stand out of the way of business and quit propping them up like puppets on a string.

When we buy things we are trading our value of our dollar against the value of another currency based on the production of it’s labor force. Its really quite simple to understand.
When you receive your dollars from the government then your dollar becomes quite useless because it is not based upon productivity but the lack thereof. So , in essence I am trading my labor for the lack of someone else’s labor in currency.

The Environment

Rules and regulations would be put on hold or discarded in favor of the common man or business versus the dependents that have a dog in the race for whatever cause. The environmentalist whacko’s would have to go look for REAL work because the truly Independent people would tell them that their quest to save the snail darter is not above the quest to help mankind. The two do not equate. Man is the superior to the Snail Darter. If the snail Darter was so smart then one would think that they would take care of themselves. Again, yet another method of control and dependence imposed by the environmentalist that like to tell lies about how CO2 is destroying this world when in fact it is them who are! They have yet to lay a concrete claim that man-made CO2 causes “global warming” which is now called “climate change” because they could not prove the first lie.

We are not allowed to drill for oil in our own borders yet we let other countries drill for oil in said borders. We even give them perks for doing so. They hold the Ace in the deck of cards because we are dependent on them. We have let the environmentalists make us so.

Think about how much we could prosper and consume and benefit the world if we loose this thought that Freedom somehow guarantee’s Independence? You are Free because others had the Independence to work for your Freedom not the other way around. Dependent thinkers in the social arena believe that we are supposed to be slaves to a unified government that will care for us from cradle to grave because we are not independent to think for ourselves. We are not as smart as they (the elitists) are hence we cannot think for ourselves and must have others to think for us. We must be led and told what to do in order to not thrive but merely survive.

Independent thinking people on the other hand believe that social problems are best left to individuals and to charities than to a bunch of politicians and lobbyists that only fuel one interest and that is the destruction of the American family and way of life.

I was brought up to learn to ‘tolerate” others when their core beliefs were not in line with mine but it meant that I don’t have to accept them and for many years that made sense but I realized that I don’t have to tolerate anybody that disagrees with me if I don’t want to. Why should I tolerate people based upon a profile that are out to kill me and my family? I don’t any longer and I refuse to any further. A truly independent society would realize this.

I truly think the founding fathers understood this concept that being free means you are independent not dependent on others to assure freedom remains intact. It also means protecting the freedoms we have and preserving them with independence not dependence.
When you are dependent on the government you will not protect yourself from it.

Instead, you will fight to keep it intact.

May you be safe and struggle hard to never be dependent.

Bing, I liked it on our website and like it here for other good folks to read.  Thanks !

Great post, Bing....

The statists just want to keep stealing from those of us who love independence to give to those who are keep them in power.  And the government just keeps getting bigger...

I like the saying "the bigger they are, the harder they fall"...and come Nov 2012...they will FALL!

As long as we stay true to our message and most importantly band together as a complete circle we will defeat them because we know who they are and we are arming ourselves with the necessary tools to rid ourselves of this disease called liberalism.
