Help! (Break glass in case of fire!)

The day of the Lord will come like a thief,

And on that day the heavens will

Pass away with great violence. – Cf. 2 Peter 3:10

If any of you follow Ann Barnhardt, you will know that she has called for a general strike on the capital markets urging people…

What Our Bully "Crisis" & the Euro-go-round Debacle Have in Common!

Who walks in the classroom, cool and slow

Who calls the English teacher, Daddy-O

Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown

He’s a clown, that Charlie Brown

He’s gonna get caught

Just you wait and see

Austere is an Adjective, Socialism is a Snake & Love is a Verb!

SOCIALISM!

Almost all the traditions and institutions which have molded the national character and the whole moral climate of England and America are those which the progress of Collectivism and its centralistic tendencies are progressively destroying. – Friedrich A Hayek, The Road to…

The Sunday Morning Tune-up, April 22nd 2012 Edition!

It has seemed to us that one of the saddest fruits of rationalism, the fatal error and great plague of our century, the pestilential source from which our revolutions and social disasters arise, is the absence of the sense of the supernatural and the profound neglect of the great truths of the future life. The earth is afflicted with a dreadful desolation, because the majority of men, fascinated by the lure of fleeting pleasures, and absorbed in their worldly interests and…

Freshman Betrayal, Bullies & Big Bad Bankers!

Is there anything more painful in this world than the betrayal of trust? Trust is so foundationally essential to relationship; there is no relationship worth having without it…which is exactly why the devastating dagger of betrayal cuts so deep!  One of the most powerful betrayal scenes ever produced on film was in the movie Braveheart when William Wallace, having been betrayed by Robert the Bruce in a deal he had cut with Longshanks for more land, lay wounded and defeated during a battle…

Camelot

In short, there’s simply not

A more congenial spot

For happily-ever-aftering than here

In Camelot. -
From the song and play of the same name.

It is a moment suspended in time. Although I was only ten years old, I can remember the moment exactly. I had one foot on the ground and the other was on the first step of the school bus I was boarding when the words President Kennedy has been shot seemed to come from everywhere! I have…

The Sunday Morning Tune-up, April 15th 2012 Edition!

New Earth (Please listen after reading)

“The most important people in my life were my mother and father. They have both passed and they both died of horrific illnesses that made me question my Catholic faith. Why would a God make these wonderful human beings suffer so much. My mother and father didn’t deserve to die the way they did.  They were the epitome of Christ. As a matter of fact I pray…

The Destiny of Demoralization!

I loved Peter Falk’s character, Columbo! In fact, I have to say he was the King of the Who done it’s in my humble opinion. Traversing the web over the course of these past few weeks I am sensing something in the force that doesn’t quite qualify as a disturbance. It’s hard to say really…more like whatever the opposite of disturbance would be. It’s whatever goes on behind the eyes of a fighter who knows he can’t be beat. I feel that spark.

Dialoguing with a few of the wonderful…

Forgive Them, For They Know Not!

“Learning is not compulsory, but neither is survival.”

– W. Edwards Deming, quality expert

What struck me in the quote above was Deming’s linking of word learning to survival. I found it interesting that he chose the word “learning” over education. The fact of the matter is that because of our education system, we have to unlearn what we’ve learned in order to survive! For example,…

Faith & Politics

Why is it that some of the most powerful and lasting creations have burst forth onto the canvas of the world as the very inspired result of mixing the passionate tones of politics with the divine on to the same brush…and yet we seem to give all our energy and resource to one while ignoring the other?

They are moon and sun, and yet we have opened our hearts to one while closing them to the other in a very odd shift from what has always been…in the context of man’s…

The Sunday Morning Tune-up, Easter 2012 Edition!

Have you ever had the experience of waking up from a sleep so deep that it actually took you a few moments to get your bearings…like remembering not only where you were, but who you were?

I’ve just finished the Cook lectures on the History of the Catholic Church because I am compelled to renew my faith and I believe in my heart that the Catholic Church is the last great sanctuary for Truth in dark and dangerous times.

Good and Happy Easter Morning to you Dear Friend!…

High Noon in the Garden of Gethsemane!

Help! – Please listen after reading…

So I had originally titled this piece High Noon which was to be my take on the modern-day showdown between Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Barack Obama…knowing how we all used to love a good western! This would have been powerful enough when you consider some very interesting similarities between the two plots…

High Noon was made in…

A Doctor with the Right Prescription for America...in Her Sickest Hour!

I was standing in the check-out line of my local supermarket when a special publication of Time caught my eye – George Washington: How the Great Uniter Helped Create the United States…and I automatically thought, asked and answered my own question – “How many people seeing this have already published the Barack Obama sequel in their own minds by replacing Uniter with Divider, and Create with Destroy?”

On the very same day,…
