The Sunday Morning Tune-up, March 4th Edition!

I don’t know which is more mind-blowing: is it the fact the Christ loves us at all, or the fact that He cares whether or not we love Him, and that we can actually increase the infinite joy of the Trinity by loving Him back, and standing up for Him, defending Him, and not abandoning Him – most especially while He is being betrayed by His own. – Ann Barnhardt

Good Morning Dear Friend! Yesterday I wrote about the Warrior side of a coin kept close to the heart in my Tribute to Andrew Breitbart. This morning I would like to invoke the Amazing Grace of Saint Thomas More. During a radio interview I gave last week, I was asked about where my blogging and songwriting comes from. It really is quite the same in both cases…I introduce intention with prayer, and then empty myself and turn the wheel (in this case the pen) over to God. Only God could have put Saint Thomas More and Andrew Breitbart together on the same coin!

                                                    A Man for All Seasons

I was a different man living in a different world when I first saw the 1966 Oscar-winning film “A Man for All Seasons” starring Paul Scofield as Sir Thomas More and Robert Shaw as Henry VIII. It is a movie I highly recommend for anyone and everyone… especially worth seeing in the context of the present day! In fact this incredible movie is all about today. The State versus the Common Man,  Corruption versus Conscience, Good versus Evil…God, faith, commitment, love, devotion, friendship, trust, betrayal…its all here.

In a nutshell, Henry appoints his dear friend Sir Thomas to succeed Thomas Wolsey as Lord Chancellor of England. Henry assumes he will have his friend’s unflinching support when he seeks the Pope’s approval for the annulment of his marriage to Catherine which put Sir Thomas in the ultimate position of having to choose between the loyalty to his friend and King, or his devotion to the Pope as the supreme authority and his own conscience. To Sir Thomas More, this is no choice at all! ( I can honestly say that I have never seen such a powerful portrayal of character and all its vestments of honor, courage, integrity and conviction as provided by Paul Scofield in the part of Sir Thomas!) To watch his character side by side with the young man Richard Rich (played by John Hurt) who betrayed the trust Sir Thomas never gave him; is Jesus looking into the eyes of Judas…too weak to hold his gaze! Absolutely breathtaking!

It is even more amazing to look out on our world today in the context of these characters. They are still here!! They have merely shed their physical shells and are back among us! You will find Henry up to his old tricks in Washington and Brussels…as there are nearly 535 Richard Rich’s on Capitol Hill! But where dear friend, has God’s true shepherd gone? Where is the soul of now Saint Thomas among us today? Where is anyone today who will put his conscience before position and gain?

We are living in a world, with churches closing around us; where good and bad is measured by the ups and downs of a stock market fed by central bankers and their printing presses…while the shepherds sit silent.

God’s Law, Natural Law…the very 1st of the 28 sacred principles of our Founders as summarized by Skousen in The 5,000 Year Leap…SHREDDED by the modern-day tyrants…while the shepherds sit silent.

…and Rule of Law?

What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil? … And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you – where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws from coast to coast, Man’s laws, not God’s, and if you cut them down — and you’re just the man to do it — do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety’s sake!” -Thomas More on The Rule of Law

while the shepherds sit silent.

What does it even mean to be a Christian today? If you are Christian in name only, then I am talking to the wind. Which one are you? The test is an easy one: Choose A or B!

A)    You are given the key of acceptance, approval, merit and financial security from every man, woman and child on the planet in exchange for your faith and service to God.

B)    Your faith and service to God veritably closes the door to the acceptance, approval, merit and financial security from the entirety of your fellow-man.

while the shepherds sit silent, we have been programmed to link our own self-validation to a results matrix created and driven by a thoroughly corrupt power, where we are dangerously prone to mistake our own principle-driven intentions, deeds and results as flawed failures…when the exact opposite is true!

I read this passage in one of Ann Barnhardt’s blogs last week:

The evil spirit was saying, “Start with the primacy of the economic! Forget about sin!” He still says this today in different words, “My Commissar goes into classrooms and asks children to pray to God for bread. And when their prayers are not answered, my Commissar feeds them. The Dictator gives bread; God does not, because there is no God, there is no soul; there is only the body, pleasure, sex, the animal, and when we die, that is the end.” -Life of Christ, page 69

I read this passage in my own Warwick Advertiser this week:

On one of the Church’s Top Shepherd’s (Cardinal Dolan) visit to our area, “But he noted that those things won’t count for much (his “spiffy” scarlet robes, silk biretta and floating good feelings) when he stands in front of God’s judgment. He won’t call me “your eminence”, he will ask have you fed and clothed the poor?”

A regular reader of mine wrote to me this past week to take me to task for what she felt was my attack on the Catholic Church in my blog A Bridge Too Far. I need to be perfectly clear, I would NEVER attack the Catholic Church because to me, that would be an attack on God himself! And just to be equally clear I answered B to the test above!

But in my heart and soul I cannot find the presence of Thomas More in the body of our Top Shepherd! Rather, I fear that the deal that Henry could not strike with Sir Thomas has indeed been struck by his modern-day counterpart with this body of Shepherds! I have no doubt of it! I, in fact, would stake my life on it!

As I have stated before, when the Shepherds fail us then it is up to us to be the shepherd unto ourselves. And it is the very heart and soul of Saint Thomas More himself that we must manifest together with the Warrior energy of Andrew Breitbart to hold steady against the siege of this most dark and evil conspiracy.

In closing I wanted to contrast something that caught my eye yesterday as I was organizing my thoughts for today’s Tune-up, with the final words of Sir Thomas at his execution:

I was channel-surfing when I happened on Melissa Lee of Squawk on the Street advising her viewers to pray for the IPO stock of Yelp to rise!

When he came to mount the steps to the scaffold, he is widely quoted as saying (to the officials): “I pray you, I pray you, Mr Lieutenant, see me safe up and for my coming down, I can shift for myself”; while on the scaffold he declared that he died “the king’s good servant, but God’s first.”

                                                    A Godly Meditation

Give me thy grace, good lord, To set the world at nought’, To set my mind fast upon thee. And not to hang upon the blast of men’s mouths. To be content to be solitary, Not to long for worldly company, Little and little utterly to cast off the world, And rid my mind of all the business thereof. Not to long to hear of any worldly things, But that the hearing of worldly phantasies may be to me displeasant. Gladly thinking of God, Piteously to call for his help, To lean unto the comfort of God, Busily labour to love him. To know mine own vility and wretchedness, To humble and meeken myself under the mighty hand of God, To bewail my sins passed, For the purging of them, patiently to suffer adversity. Gladly to bear my pergatory here, To be joyful of tribulations, To walk the narrow way that leadeth to Life…-Saint Thomas More
