Colleen Gray "Say a Prayer" 9/11 Memorial Performance in Washington D.C.

9/11/2010, Washington Monument - I was invited to Washington D.C. to perform my original song "Say a Prayer" (written on 9/11/2001) during the Unite in Action 9/11 Memorial (and was there as a National Director for iCaucus for the March on D.C. Symposiums) - this is a video of that performance.

This was, and is, one of the highest honors I have ever been given as a singer/songwriter, though singing this was one of the most difficult performances of my life... I was standing before people who had lost loved ones when the planes hit and the Towers fell. I was standing before some of the brave First Responders who lost Brothers that day. Performing the piece I wrote on 9/11, about 9/11... with the Washington Monument towering to the left of me on such a beautiful, clear blue day, and my son behind me... I will cherish these moments for the rest of my life, pitchiness and all.

Side note/inside joke:  I normally play this on the piano/keys when I sing it.  My hands had no idea what to do with all the free time.  And the mic was a double whammy... first one wasn't live, next one was about 8" lower than what would've been comfortable - that happens alot, as you can also see in the Marcel show video.  :)

Indeed, Lisa.  This was my first trip to our Nation's Capitol, and to have my son there to experience all of it was such a blessing.  I remember, vividly, looking up into this unbelievably beautiful clear blue sky... seeing the Monument towering directly to my left and feeling this indescribable, overwhelming feeling in my chest... my soul.  So many people thanked us walking back to our car - I have never felt such a connection with so many.  Wow just doesn't cut it, you know?

Geez - I am getting all choked up now, lol. :)
