Stairs to Heaven (Tribute to 9/11 Heroes & the Children Left Behind)

In memory of all who perished on 11 September 2001...and all who have paid the ultimate price for freedom since that day.

Special dedication to the 343 Firefighters and Paramedics who gave all....and their children left behind...

STAIRS TO HEAVEN

The sky was crystal clear when you dropped me
Off at school that day
You smiled and said "I love you, angel"
And I watched you drive away.

That was the last time I saw my hero
I was ten years old
Visions of those blackened skies
Etched deep within my soul

Wasn't yet a teenager
No longer just a kid
They ruined all the plans we made
By the evil that they did
When I close my eyes I see your face
And know that all is well
You climbed the stairs to Heaven
The day the towers fell

I had told all my friends my Dad
Would've coached our soccer team
I know you would've warned my dates
They'd better treat me like a queen

That Ol' Teddy Bear you gave me
Chased the monsters from my dreams
He's all worn and tattered now
Splitting at the seams

Wasn't yet a teenager
No longer just a kid
They ruined all the plans we made
By the evil that they did
When I close my eyes I see your face
And know that all is well
You climbed the stairs to Heaven
The day the towers fell

You taught me about courage
And selfless sacrifice
When you faced those fiery towers
To save those strangers lives

Without hesitation I knew
What I had to do
Raised my right hand, took the oath
Dad I did it for you

Wasn't yet a teenager
No longer just a kid
They ruined all the plans we made
By the evil that they did
When I close my eyes I see your face
And know that all is well
You climbed the stairs to Heaven
The day the towers fell

Writing in the desert heat
About danger in the sand
My story told in this dusty journal
I penned in my own hand

I know one day I'll see you, Dad
But I promise until then
I'll be strong, keep pressing on
Until we meet again

Wasn't yet a teenager
No longer just a kid
They ruined all the plans we made
By the evil that they did
When I close my eyes I see your face
And know that all is well
You climbed the stairs to Heaven
The day the towers fell

My Daddy was a Fireman
The day the towers fell
